Get Summer Fit
Summer time has arrive in the UK which means more fun beach trips, family holidays and getting the bikinis out. Even though it’s hot and very tempting to lay on the beach all day- it’s still important to keep moving and remain active. We’ve rounded up our top 5 tips on staying fit and healthy during the Summer months.
The best possible way of exercising is sneaking it into your day without realising you’re doing it! Summer is the perfect time to get active and have fun at the same time. Playing in the garden with family can be great to move the body- rounders, football, cricket and chase are perfect for getting the heart rate up, not to mention spending time with loved ones. Taking a trip to your local park, beach or national trust site is a lovely way of exercising. Simply put your phone down, grab some water and go on a walk! Taking in your beautiful surroundings makes you forget you’re working out and walking burns so many calories.
Do you like to lay in in the morning? Waking up 1 hour early can be so beneficial to your mind and body. Try a new routine in the morning, whether that’s going on a lovely dog walk, doing yoga in your garden or even sign up for an early morning exercise class! Starting your day off by moving your body and being kind to yourself is a great habit to start and it sets you off for the rest of the day.
EMBRACE THE BBQ
British Summertime means a lot of BBQ’s. It may be a situation to be tempted by indulgence but it’s also a great chance to try out some amazing healthy recipes and fill your body with nutrients. Instead of unhealthy meats and fats, try a vegetable skewer to roast on the BBQ. Peppers, tomatoes, aubergine and courgette is perfect for this! In terms of salads, try to sneak in as many vegetables as possible. Try unique combinations of cucumber, watermelon, mint and lime! Avoiding sugary dressings is a great way of keeping your heart healthy as well.
AVOID THE SUGAR
In the hot weather it can be tempting to grab a sugar filled soda to cool down. Instead of drinking one of these and having a sugar crash- try making your own! Simply infuse some sparkling spring water with fruit and vegetables. You can experiment with different flavours but here are our favourites:
- Mint and cucumber
- Strawberries and lime
- Blueberries and elderflower cordial
- Lemon and grapefruit
