Summer is the best – hands down and the sun is so good for lifting our spirits and mood plus all the warmer days are very pleasant indeed. Apart from when all the hard work you’ve put into doing your lovely make goes down the drain because it’s literally falling off your face. Below we set out steps to help you ensure your makeup stays in place.
USE A PRIMER
A primer is a cream or liquid that you apply after all of your skincare typically and before foundation or tinted moisturiser although you can find some products that double up as a moisturiser and primer. They are designed to help makeup last longer, improve skin texture and blur pores. They help create a barrier between product and skin, therefore stopping your makeup from sinking into your skin. Look for one that is natural and silicone free for a pore smoothing finish and something more hydrating to stop makeup looking powdery and dry throughout the day.
SET YOUR FACE
In order to stop your face producing oil and creating a shine during the day, make sure you set your base makeup with a natural powder. Look for a finely milled one that smooths over the skin, without seeping into pores. Take a fluffy brush and gently dust onto areas that show signs of wear first- the centre of forehead, nose and chin. As well as a powder, a lot of brands now offer a makeup setting spray. These handy sprays are great to spritz on after makeup application to lock it all in. You can make your own by mixing rose water, glycerin and water.
If you have dry skin, you might not like the look of powder. Even the most finely milled and high quality powders can settle into fine lines and wrinkles. Instead of adding product to mattify the skin you can use blotting papers to take away shine. Blotting papers are small, thin paper that can be pressed onto the skin that instantly soaks up oil and sweat. They leave the skin refreshed, matte and without shine.
Most makeup items now come in a waterproof formula including mascara, eyeliner, lip products and cream eyeshadow. Look for a waterproof mascara to stop smudging and smearing around the eyes. Combining a primer, waterproof products and a setting spray will keep your makeup looking fresh in the summer months.
We’d love to hear how you keep your makeup in check on these summer days!
